Catalyst – The Newsletter: Nobody cares like mom

April 1977…a young 7-year old boy awoke to a rare early Spring Sunlight streaming into his bedroom.

But it was not the sun that woke him…something was not right. There were many voices in the house.

The boy jumped out of bed…padded down the hall…to find the home filled with friends and neighbors.

His mom was crying…and wrapped her arms around him…pulled him onto her lap…and let him know that his dad was gone, and would not be coming home.

A life was changed on that day, for the worse…and for the better.

Josephine Rose Rubin was an amazing woman. Widowed unexpectedly, she bucked up, buckled down, took over the family business and raised 2 young children on her own.

She was everything…mother…father…mentor…leader…confidante…enforcer (and was she ever)…you name it.

BUT…Josie was MOM 1st and foremost. Josie Cared! She cared, and loved, and supported like only a mom can!

MOM…MOTHER…MAMA…MOMMY…whatever you call her…there truly is no one like her.

We dads are important too…but NO ONE is like MOM.

I polled some employees…family and friends…and here are some of their Mom-Thoughts:

Unconditional love, honesty, friendship, advisor, advocate, your biggest champion, comfort

Kind, always supportive, reliable (always there when I need her) and loving!

Moms are the heart of the family, the glue that holds it together

Moms are always there to listen and nurture. I think of unconditional love, compassion, and the one who took care of us when it came to eating meals together and patching up our cuts and scrapes.

Sacrificing…Loving….home….your biggest fan….funny….passionate….traditions….protector…

How about kisses on the forehead, being cuddled, the smell of warm cookies, a bandage on a bruised knee the smell of clean clothes, etc.

Mother’s Day was last month.  It is ENORMOUS every year!

Father’s Day is this month…and Mother’s Day makes Father’s Day look like…well…just another day.

Why?  Why so much bigger?  Why do we revere mom so much?

NO…ONE…CARES…LIKE…MOM!

A great 4-letter word: CARE!

In business…from your service people…to your sales people…to you…CARE!

In a world characterized by: “Over-Corporate”…”Unfeeling”…”Profit-Maximizing”…CARE like you have never cared before!

Care more than you need to…more often than expected…and more deeply than the next guy (or girl).

When your customers sense that you care…you are connected. They are more loyal…THEY CARE…and if they care…they choose you!

Look at politicians (generally) these days. They are held in amazingly low regard. Congress is having record setting lows regarding approval rating. They fight amongst themselves…they don’t listen to their constituents…the constantly act as f they don’t care…its money first!

The reason to care? Sure, it is for customer retention. It is for increased sales and profitability. It is for brand value.

But, on top of that…it’s what humans should do. CARE! It acts as a GPS, giving you direction…and apart from earning an income…it gives you a purpose to do what you do.

All of this is true with how you can and should care for your employees as well…and what they will give back to you…when they know you care.

  • Care! Care More Than Your Competition!
  • Better Yet…Care Like A Mother!
  • Make It Easy For People To Do, And Keep Doing Business With You!
  • Look Up…And Surprise Someone!
