(Dis)abilities + Work + Beaverton = No Problem! Introducing Jonah Carrasquer, Employed!
By Dirkse CC Team
Jonah Carrasquer is a 21-year-old Athlete who recently participated in the 2018 USA Special Olympic Games in Seattle Washington where he earned a Silver medal in both the 200 and 400 Meter dash. He also graduated in June from The Beaverton Community Transition program where he learned valuable life skills designed to help him gain independence and move toward his post-secondary goals. For Jonah, this included finding a job in the community that matched his skills, abilities and interests. As an energetic and reliable team player with a contagious smile and friendly demeanor, Jonah is a perfect fit for joining the Facilities team at Top Golf in Hillsboro.
It is important to Top Golf to keep the facilities in tip-top shape for the guests who visit this re-invented driving range that includes food, games, play, music and fun, of course! Facilities Manager Chris Bulosan shared that they needed someone to pressure wash the outdoor cushions that get constant use by guests and with Jonah working 8 hours every week focusing on this task, a need was filled. “He makes me laugh, he has a great, positive personality and comes to work every day… the crew has definitely grown to love this guy.”
Jonah worked with Senior Employment Specialist, Glenn Bishop of Dirkse Counseling and Consulting, Inc. and Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, Eric Stone to reach his career goal of working at a meaningful job in the community. With the guidance of his Dirkse CC Job Coach, Bryan Moore, Jonah continues to increase his skills and independence level. “I love my job… I like the people I work with and I like making my own money” said Jonah. This is the kind of passion and enthusiasm Top Golf and most employers consider crucial to success; it’s no wonder Jonah is a winner!
