Pacific Gas & Electric: Combining wind, solar and battery storage at the new Wheatridge Renewable Energy Facility
Oregonians are at the forefront of a dramatic transformation toward a future powered by clean energy. Along with you, the communities we serve and our partners, we’re committed to this future.
We’re proud to announce a groundbreaking, first-of-its-scale project that combines wind and solar generation with battery storage in a single, integrated facility. This energy trifecta is designed to harvest and store power from renewable resources when they’re available, so we can use that energy when they’re not.
Local, renewable and emissions-free
Located in Eastern Oregon, Wheatridge’s power will serve more than 100,000 homes, helping us meet about half of our customers’ power needs with emissions-free resources.
It will include one of Oregon’s largest solar farms and its largest battery storage facility.
The wind portion of the project will be operational by the end of 2020, the same year we stop coal-fired operations at our Boardman facility.
