A Kumon Completer and Mentor! Say Hello to Max Lam

Max Lam began his Kumon journey in 2016 as a bright-eyed Pre-K student. This May, after nine years of steady progress, he completed the entire Kumon Math Program as an eighth grader—a remarkable milestone that few students reach. From counting to calculus, Max mastered every level of Kumon’s rigorous curriculum, developing not only advanced math skills but also the discipline and confidence to tackle challenges independently.

Kumon is more than just worksheets—it’s a global learning method designed to help students build strong academic foundations through daily practice and self-learning. Students’ progress at their own pace, often advancing far beyond grade level. The program emphasizes perseverance, time management, and a growth mindset—qualities Max exemplifies.

Now, Max is giving back. As a current employee at the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Beaverton-South, he supports younger students on their own learning journeys. Whether he’s guiding them through tricky problems or encouraging their progress, Max brings firsthand experience and empathy to his role, making him a relatable mentor and a valued member of the team.

This fall, Max is beginning his freshman year at Mountainside High School enrolled in AGS3, an advanced geometry and statistics course, demonstrating his readiness for high school-level math and beyond.
