A message of hope – A call to action

As the holiday season wraps up and we look ahead to a new year, I want to take a moment to reflect. The end of the year often brings a mix of emotions—gratitude for what we’ve shared and anticipation for what’s to come. As we enter the holiday season, I want to offer a message of hope as well as a call to action.

Things seem like they are changing quickly, and not always for the better. In these times, we can ground ourselves by finding ways to help our neighbors. This is the perfect time to give the gift of your time, talents, and care to our community. Whether you’re a baker, a runner, a gardener, or simply someone who listens with compassion, your unique skills can help those around you.

For me, this time of year always brings a renewed sense of purpose. After finishing my service in the Army, I faced uncertainty about my next steps. I found direction and fulfillment by becoming involved locally—starting with a city board. That path eventually led me to where I am today, serving as your mayor. This holiday season, I encourage you to reflect on how you can give back to your community in ways big or small.

While change can be unsettling, it also brings the chance to shape our future. Let’s channel the holiday spirit of generosity and togetherness into action for the new year. By building connections, supporting our neighbors, and lending our voices to local efforts, we can create the community we all want to see.

Happy Holidays Beaverton! Here’s to a new year full of possibilities—let’s make it one to remember.

Lacey Beaty was elected Mayor of Beaverton in 2020. Prior to serving as Mayor, she served for six years on the Beaverton City Council.
