Adopt a Puppy: Meet Wemby

Wemby’s story is one of neglect, resilience and second chances. At just one year old, this tiny little dog arrived at the county shelter in heartbreaking condition. He had been severely neglected and emaciated, weighing only 4.8 pounds. He was suffering from painful skin infections, profound hair loss, extremely overgrown toenails and was already in need of dental care.
Fortunately, Wemby’s story didn’t end there. He came to Indigo Rescue, where he received the care he so desperately needed. With medicated baths, nutritious food, veterinary care and plenty of love, Wemby’s skin infections have cleared and his beautiful hair has grown back. Today, he weighs a little over six pounds and is a happy, playful little guy who is clearly making up for lost time!
Wemby absolutely loves playing with other dogs and cats. He is curious, confident and basically fearless—a remarkable transformation for a dog who had such a difficult start in life.
Wemby does have one challenge: he guards his food. Given his history of starvation, this behavior is understandable, and it is manageable with appropriate adult supervision and handling. For that reason, we don’t believe Wemby is a good match for a home with young children.
What Wemby really needs is a loving home with a playful small dog—or even two—to keep him company and share his zest for life!
