Affordable Care Act, open enrollment is here! Don’t miss out!
By Christopher Levesque
During this past year, I received calls from individuals wanting to purchase health insurance. When I explain you can only purchase a “qualified” health plan during the open enrollment period, November 1st through December 15th, they are surprised.
The exception is if you have had a qualifying event, example; losing an employer plan, moving in from another state, you can check out if you qualify at:
With health insurance sometimes being the number two expenses in a lot of family’s budgets I understand, why some people do not purchase coverage. To help pay for the premium, go look and see if you can qualify for monthly premium subsidy. The web site is www.Healthcare.gov. There you can plug in your family information and projected income for 2019 and the system will provide costs and plans. Many times, your child may even qualify for free coverage through Oregon Health Plan. Or contact a licensed agent. There is no cost to you for working with an agent and if they are qualified they can also help with the application process. They are compensated from the insurance carriers that they represent and working with an agent does not increase your premium.
I know medical conditions and expense either directly; the cost of care or indirectly, loss of work due to illness is the leading cause of bankruptcy in America. Usually the individual does not have health insurance and sometimes that could have been prevented.
Open Enrollment only happens once a year. Don’t miss your opportunity to purchase a new plan OR change your current plan for 2019!
You can check the 10 benefits out at: https://www.healthcare.gov/coverage/what-marketplace-plans-cover/
Don’t forget that open enrollment is November 1st – December 15th.
