Be 2-Weeks Ready Program: Preparing for a winter storm

Throughout winter, Beaverton’s Emergency Management team urges residents to follow the Be 2-Weeks Ready program to prepare for potential winter storms and flooding. Severe winter weather can lead to power outages, difficult road conditions, and limited access to essential supplies. The Be 2-Weeks Ready program advises having enough food, water, medications, and warm clothing to last at least 14 days, helping households stay safe and resilient during emergencies.

In addition to individual preparation, winter storms and heavy rains can cause localized flooding. Clear gutters and nearby storm drains to reduce risk and prevent overflow. Creating an emergency plan that includes evacuation routes, shelter locations, and emergency contact numbers is highly recommended to ensure safety.

Preparing as a community is also key. Reach out to friends, family, and neighbors to make sure everyone is informed and equipped for winter conditions, especially those who may need extra assistance, such as elderly residents or individuals with mobility challenges.

Strong community connections and encouraging everyone to be prepared will help Beaverton become more resilient in emergencies.
