Beaverton City News: Beaverton’s Neighborhood Program Selected as Finalist for Two National Awards

By City Staff

Five Oaks Triple Creek Neighborhood Association Committee (NAC) and Highland NAC have been selected for Neighborhoods USA, Neighborhood of the Year Awards for their creative efforts in communities.

The Five Oaks Triple Creek NAC is a finalist for the Neighborhood of the Year Beautification Award for their restoration improvements in local parks. NAC volunteers have planted more than 4,000 native plants, and removed countless amounts of invasive species and wind-damaged debris.

The Highland NAC is a finalist for the Neighborhood of the Year Neighborliness Award. In 2017, Highland NAC hosted a walking tour of the neighborhood’s architecture and history, and a fall Turkey Trot fun run. Highland NAC began neighborhood walks, runs and tree plantings to promote an active lifestyle and create opportunities for neighbors to build relationships.

Both NACs utilized the City of Beaverton’s Matching Grant fund, which brings residents together to support neighborhood-initiated planning, community building, and improvement projects.
