Beaverton feels a little more alive: I hope June brings you sunshine

As we move into June, I’ve been thinking about how this time of year changes the rhythm of our city.
The rain eases up (mostly!), days get longer, and suddenly Beaverton feels a little more alive. Parks fill up. Schools let out for the summer. Neighbors linger a little longer outside. Community events pop up in every corner of town. There’s an energy to this season that reminds me why so many of us love living here.
But one of the things I appreciate most about Beaverton isn’t just the big moments. It’s the quieter ones.
It’s the neighbor who notices your newspapers piling up and checks in. The volunteer who gives their time without asking for recognition. The familiar face at the coffee shop, library, senior center, or farmers market who makes a place feel welcoming. Those small moments of connection matter more than we sometimes realize.
Summer can be busy, but it can also be a good time to reconnect. Call an old friend. Invite someone to lunch. Visit a local spot you haven’t been to in a while. Try something new. Say yes to getting out into the community, even if just for an hour.
And if you’re newer to Beaverton or looking for ways to feel more connected, know this: there’s a place for you here.
I hope June brings you sunshine, laughter, and a few moments that remind you just how lucky we are to call this community home.
