Meet Logan, a recent hire at Avamere Bethany – here to assist with Happy Hour service, dining room settings, salad bar serving and table cleaning.
Logan had been attending a transition program in Hillsboro where he learned and practiced work related skills that he could bring to an employer. The soft skills were already built-in as everyone could see. After exploring different types of businesses and jobs with an Employment Specialist, Logan was ready for his first job.
Working at Avamere Bethany is something that Logan is so proud of. He loves helping with setting the tables for dinner and greeting the residents and coworkers. His coaches have seen growth in his hard skills and his supervisors could not be happier with the job he is doing. (But they love his happy disposition the most!)
Logan’s mom Lisa provided this feedback on the impact employment has had on him:
- Why is this job a good fit for him? He does routine tasks at work that help him feel successful and gives him positive interactions.
- What does he love about the job? Logan loves to engage with people, and he also loves to help people. This job offers both opportunities.
- How has employment made a difference in Logan’s life? Logan sees himself as an adult now having a job, like other adults that he knows. It has created independence for him from following his calendar, getting ready for work independently and riding Trimet Lift. He had never gone anywhere independently before, always with family or an assistant. For him to take that step was big, as well as navigating new skills and communicating with new people that might find it hard to understand him. Logan has gained confidence, pride and a greater feeling of self-worth through this job.
