City News: New Councilor| Outdoor Dining – Building a Better Beaverton

#CityNews
Welcome Councilor! Ashley Hartmeier-Prigg was sworn into the Beaverton City Council in October.
City Council Position 1 was vacated earlier this year when Mayor Lacey Beaty began her new term as mayor. The remainder of the existing Beaverton City Council Position 1 term is through Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022.
Outdoor Dining to Become Permanent
Beaverton residents and business owners have spoken… the majority want outdoor seating to become a permanent fixture of Beaverton. In response to the pandemic, the city allowed businesses to temporarily expand outdoors into on-street parking spaces and private parking lots. A survey of more than 1,200 people in late summer showed that the vast majority wanted these new changes to become permanent. A public hearing for an ordinance allowing business expansion into sidewalks, streets and parking lots was held on Oct. 5. The ordinance was adopted with City Council direction to staff to extend enforcement until Friday, Sep. 30, 2022. The final program will ensure all new vibrant spaces in public sidewalks, public on-street parking, and private parking lots are accessible to all Beaverton residents and allow business owners to plan and invest using a predictable permanent process.
