Dog licensing just got an upgrade, in partnership with DocuPet

Washington County Animal Services has partnered with DocuPet, North America’s leading pet registration and lost pet recovery service, to provide our community with a better licensing experience. Dog owners in Washington County now have the option to personalize their dog’s license tag and all license tags now include DocuPet’s HomeSafe 24/7 lost pet service. If a pet goes missing, finders can reference a unique code on the tag to connect with DocuPet’s dispatch team, who works around the clock to reunite pets with their families.

“With DocuPet, the whole system is more efficient. We’ll be able to get lost dogs home faster, dog owners will save money by avoiding impound and boarding fees, and our staff will be able to dedicate more time and resources to other critical animal welfare needs.” said Animal Services Manager Randy Covey.

By law, all dogs six months and older must be licensed in Washington County, and a current rabies vaccine is required for the license to be valid. In addition to providing identification and showing that a dog is vaccinated against rabies, licenses also help fund important animal-related services in the county. These include investigating animal neglect and abuse cases, responding to dog bites, helping stray and injured pets, and more.

As part of the move to DocuPet, Animal Services is waiving late fees related to dog licensing through October 31. A license will also cost less if:

  1. You buy several years at a time instead of renewing it annually,
  2. Your dog is spayed or neutered, or
  3. If you are at least 65 years old with a spayed or neutered dog.
