Downtown Beaverton is for everyone. It’s always about the people
“What is it that binds us to this place, as to no other?”, the video begins. It’s not the tall pine trees, not the downtown streets, not the light rail, nor the beautiful forest trails. It is the people. It’s always been about the people, the true community, and the relationships they create.
Downtown Beaverton is for everyone. No matter where in this world you call home, you are welcome here.
We plan a lot of programs and activities to promote and support downtown Beaverton. We fund large historic preservation projects, and we plant little planters.
But honestly, there is a deeper purpose here. It’s about building relationships, true community – the kind that goes beyond the walls of a building.
If all we have done is make a pretty neighborhood, but fail to develop any attachment to it and to the people that give it life, then we have fallen short of our potential.
Sure, the new business signs look awesome, and the new (and old) businesses are so special, but let us not let it stop there. Real people, real families own these businesses and properties. They are investing all they have in this growing city. They are the heart of downtown Beaverton.
Come meet some of these people and experience it for yourself. Aren’t sure where to start? Pick up the Passport to Old Town at participating businesses (www.beavertonpassport.com) and come explore.
If you’d like get involved, we’d love to talk with you about how to do that, and we look forward to all that 2020 has in store for Old Town! Thank you for being a part of it.
The Beaverton Downtown Association promotes the historic preservation and economic development of Old Town Beaverton. Want to get involved? Check out our website at www.downtownbeaverton.org.
