Downtown Beaverton just won two statewide awards for 2021. Lionheart Coffee Company won the 2021 Oregon Business Hero award for its community service throughout the pandemic, and the BDA and City of Beaverton won the 2021 Best Civic Partnership Award.

When I came to this job in August 2018, I could feel the energy in downtown. I could see how poised it was for growth and change, and it was just so exciting. I knew I had to be a part of it, and I am very grateful to be here now.

I moved 2,700 miles away from my old home in North Carolina with a dream to join you all here, and it’s because of people like Ben and Lauren Reese at Lionheart Coffee and the great City of Beaverton staff that this has become my new home.

We’ve been fortunate to win nine statewide awards since 2019, and that’s almost unbelievable. Nine.

Downtown Beaverton has so much soul. I think of all the great immigrant-owned businesses here, and I am astounded by how many dreams become reality here. It’s growing, and it continues to change, and I am so excited to see more dreams being realized here.

I always say that downtowns are for everyone. They have long been the gathering places of community, innovation, and celebration. Downtown is Beaverton’s living room (maybe “dining room” is more accurate, given the great restaurants here). It’s the heartbeat of this community.

Lionheart Coffee has always said they want to be lion hearts for Beaverton. May we all have that heart for this city.
