From Volunteer to Employed! Meet Raiden Moreno: Ministry Host at Sunset Church

As a Community Transition Program student, Raiden has had a lot of good experience as a volunteer at several work sites in Beaverton. One site that CTP has long-partnered with is Sunset Church. Sunset had initiated a conversation with CTP staff regarding employment opportunities that a student could apply for. Job developers at Dirkse Counseling and Consulting who were helping Raiden find his first job thought this would be a good fit for him and arranged a meeting with the hiring staff. Everyone agreed that Raiden would be excellent in the role of Ministry Host, where he completes many tasks during the week to make sure the facility is cleaned and prepared for the busy weekend services and activities.

Three months into Raiden’s employment, he has proven himself to be a very valuable part of the team and recently had a performance review where he received nothing but praise for the work he does. His manager Steve says he shows “great respect for his coworkers and has excellent teamwork.” In addition, he is a great communicator, takes the initiative, works independently and does a very efficient and thorough job.

Raiden has expressed high job satisfaction, and his parents agree. They say that he comes home happy after each shift.

Recently, as part of the CTP program, Raiden volunteers again with the other students in the group who do work experience at Sunset Church. It is exciting to Raiden that he can assist his classmates in learning the ropes if they need it. He is clearly an expert in his work!
