Get me that truck! Ed wants to sell 2 cars and buy 1

Hello Loyal Beaverton Readers! Ed is new to Beaverton and found me through this column. Having recently moved to Beaverton after retiring, Ed decided it was time to sell one of his three vehicles and asked if I could help.

I met up with Ed at his house and after evaluating each car, we came up with a plan. The first car was a large one ton 3500 4×4 crew cab with a long bed. And while both he and his wife still wanted a truck like this, it was just too large and had to be replaced. The other two vehicles were fairly new sedan and a convertible sportscar. They didn’t need both and since the sportscar was what they enjoyed driving on weekends down the coast, they decided that the sedan could go. The plan was in place: replace the truck and sell the sedan. Could I sell two used cars and buy one new truck without any money out of pocket? I sure was going to do my best!

Step one was to have my detailer clean up both cars and get them ready to be sold. During this time, we searched for a new truck. Before we get to that though, now that both vehicles were clean and ready for sale, a funny thing happened the following day. I had another client, Dave, who lived over near my old neighborhood in Sexton Mountain. He asked if I could find him a large 4×4 pickup truck, any color. Long story short, Ed and I immediately took the newly washed truck over to show Dave. After a quick test drive. He loved it and bought it on the spot. One vehicle down and one to go.

The other vehicle Ed had was a newer Toyota Camry Hybrid which is in high demand so I knew it would sell easily. To get the maximum price for the car however, I drove it to my office, took photos and made a nice ad to post online. The ad looked great and so did the Camry. The following day, I had a couple of inquiries with the first appointment set for 10am. The couple explained that their Camry Hybrid of the same year, same color, and same trim level was recently totaled, and they were looking to replace it. After showing them the Carfax and test driving the vehicle, it was an easy decision. We did all of the necessary paperwork, they wrote out a check and then headed on their way. Second car sold.

I quickly called Ed to share the great news and he was shocked that we were able to get the full asking price. I ran a check over to him for the Camry, then we all sat down for to discuss the final piece of the puzzle: a new truck. As they were now down to just one vehicle from the three they had just a couple days before, finding the right truck soon was a priority. Ed and his wife wanted a Gray or Green diesel crew cab 4×4 similar to their old truck but with a shorter bed so it could fit better in their driveway. They also wanted a beefy 1500 or half ton, with a lot of options. I went to work and made a few calls to my favorite suppliers and I found a brand-new Chevy 1500 Diesel 4×4 Trail Boss, trim level in Cypress Gray. I sent photos to Ed who shared them with his wife. About 30 minutes later, Ed called me back saying in no uncertain terms to “GET ME THAT TRUCK!” I called my supplier back and by 1pm, the truck along with all the paperwork were delivered to my office. In the end, Ed and his wife got two cars sold and one new one purchased in just a handful of days. Needless to say, they left my office in their new truck very happy with the entire transaction.

This story was an absolute joy to write. Can you tell how much I love being able to help people buy and sell their cars?
