Happy December Beaverton!

Happy December! I’m excited to welcome this month where our city comes alive in lights, laughter, and community spirit. As we close out the year, this is a perfect moment to reflect, reconnect, and renew.

First, mark your calendars. Our downtown is lighting up for the season with the Winter Lights & Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, December 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. Life in the northwest can be grey this time of year, so when our city park sparkles and our community gathers, it’s a reminder of how bright we are together. Bring warm clothes, someone you love, and maybe a thermos of cocoa.

Second, this is a great time to lean into our “reuse, recycle, reconnect” spirit. Whether you’re shopping locally (hello, our winter and arts markets!) or taking a moment to donate gently used items, let’s make December a conscious, community-minded month. Our small businesses and local artisans make Beaverton unique, and by supporting them, we build the economic and social fabric of our city.

Third, I’m proud of the progress we’ve made this year. Sustaining our community and our planet has been a real focus, from updating the city’s Climate Action Plan and installing clean energy systems in our facilities to expanding community programs that invite everyone into the conversation about climate. We’ve done meaningful work, and we know there’s more ahead. As we step into 2026, let’s carry our optimism and grit with us.

And finally, take a moment for yourself. The pace can get wild. During these colder, darker days, take a little extra pause: walk in a park, sip something warm, connect with a neighbor, and remember that the essence of community isn’t just in the big events—it’s in the everyday kindnesses.
