How auto brokers help when purchasing a car

It’s about time, money and peace of mind

Hello loyal Beaverton readers, thank you all for writing, calling and emailing about the last few articles because they sure have been fun to write.

While we are very familiar with all aspects of the automotive business, we do specialize in buying and selling new and used vehicles, of any kind. I would like to explain what it is that I and other auto brokers do since I’ve been in the car business almost 46 years!

So, first and foremost, I can save you money. With vehicle availability still at an all-time low, most car buyers are at the mercy of the dealership’s schedule, especially if you go alone. It is very unlikely that you can actually purchase exactly what you want in terms of color, equipment, trim level, and model. The dealership will make a very strong attempt to sell you what they have on hand or even better, they will attempt to sell you a vehicle that is currently being built or is in transit from the manufacturer to their lot.

If I help you, for example, I work through the fleet sales department, which the public cannot do. Only a licensed dealer or broker can gain access to fleet pricing. The fleet department can find vehicles from outside locations which differs from the retail sales department who need to sell you what they have on hand. Retail salespeople are also taught to hard sell customers on back-end products such as a warranty, paint sealants, as well as a variety of accessories. The fleet department will not do this as a rule. They really don’t need to. However, if some back-end products are things you want, they can sell these at a discounted rate.

Secondly, let’s talk about the time factor. The national average for time spent at a dealership trying to purchase a new or used vehicle since the COVID19 is over 5 hours. Who has time for that? A borker, however, is able to complete things from start to finish in under an hour including the test drive, vehicle acclimation, linking your phones, and giving you a tour of your new car inside, and out.

Lastly, in many cases, we auto brokers never really have to set foot in the dealership. For example, I have been known to have a new or used vehicle delivered directly to my office with the paperwork. I’ll even help you with the financing if necessary. More importantly though, I can get better pricing than even the best negotiator because I’m on the inside and speak their language.
