Important information on camps, facilities, refunds & message gardens, Summer camps are off to a great start!
THPRD served nearly 200 children at summer camp during our opening week at the HMT campus and at Mt. View Champions Park. The campers and staff have enjoyed getting into our open space and parks for a variety of nature, sports, and enrichment activities. From basketball and tennis, to bird-watching and crafts, being at a THPRD camp is a safe and fun experience.
Space is still available. Find your child’s camp at www.thprd.org/activities/summer-camps.
We are working on plans to reopen some facilities for limited use in mid-to-late August and September. We are still working out the details and will be able to share opening dates with you in the coming weeks. The first facilities that will be reopening are Conestoga Recreation and Aquatic Center (pool and splash pad will remain closed) and the Tualatin Hills Athletic Center. We are in the process of welcoming back some of our furloughed staff as well as hiring part-time staff to be able to open the facilities. Our maintenance and risk management teams are hard at work ensuring the facilities are safe. Facilities has done indoor air quality assessments and is investing in top-of-the line air filters, duct cleaning, and other steps such as ensuring our ventilation system includes outdoor air to improve the indoor air quality. The activities we offer inside facilities will look and feel different. All of our indoor spaces will be following physical distancing rules. Class sizes and activities will be limited to ensure the health and safety of all participants. We will be updating our website soon with details as the reopening dates are finalized and class offerings are scheduled.
While it is exciting to know some of our facilities will be opening soon and we’re excited to welcome everyone back, it is important to share that it will take longer to open other facilities. After our initial openings, we will look to open the Cedar Hills Recreation Center, the Babette Horenstein Tennis Center, and the Tualatin Hills Nature Center, tentatively scheduled in September. All of our other facilities will remain closed for the remainder of 2020, and will hopefully be brought back online in 2021. This includes several of our smaller swim centers, the Garden Home Recreation Center, and the Elsie Stuhr Center.
Staff has begun the work to send refunds to patrons who have purchased deluxe or general passes. With the ongoing closure of facilities, it made sense to refund people for the passes they purchased this past year. Credits will be prorated through March 13, 2020, when the facility closures began. It will take us some time to process the 2,700+ refunds, so we want to let people know to expect their refund by August 15.
At this time, we will not be selling deluxe or general passes when facilities reopen. We will wait and evaluate deluxe and general passes later in 2021, but we will continue to offer daily use admission passes and will be keeping the same rates that were in effect in spring 2020.
