Introducing Exotic Bird Rescue of Oregon

Adopting a bird is like adopting a lifelong friend

The Exotic Bird Rescue of Oregon is a nonprofit animal rescue located throughout western Oregon. Founded in 1994 as the Emerald Exotic Bird Society and reformed as the Exotic Bird Rescue of Oregon in 2000, our primary mission is to ensure that relinquished or abandoned parrots can find a new forever home. We are an all-volunteer organization which maintains a series of foster homes along the I5 corridor.

Individuals or families interested in fostering or adopting from the Exotic Bird Rescue first start by taking an online bird care class which covers the basics of proper parrot care and highlights some of the difficulties in “parronting” one of these unique avians. From there, prospective homes are given a thorough home inspection, both to look for potential bird hazards and to allow for one of our home inspectors to answer questions about bird care. Finally, prospective adopters undertake several visits with birds they’re interested in to check for compatibility ahead of the actual adoption. It’s our goal to make the process informative, intuitive, and to maximize the chances that every adoption will lead to a new successful forever home for that bird.

As an all-volunteer organization, there are opportunities for individuals with all skill sets to participate. From making toys for our foster flock, to assisting in our fundraising efforts, to managing our IT infrastructure, we’re always on the lookout for volunteers with diverse talents.

For those more interested in adopting or fostering, the Exotic Bird Rescue currently has over 60 birds in our foster system. One of our birds looking for her new forever home is Charlie the Quaker, who is 10 years old, loves being around other birds, and is always ready to share some healthy snacks.

Additionally, we have several bonded pairs, like George & Tevye, who are still working diligently towards being comfortable around people but love being part of a flock.
