Job development is a good fit for me: Introducing Colton Dumont

Just a few months ago, Dirkse Counseling and Consulting welcomed our newest team member, Colton! He was new to the role of Employment Specialist/Job Developer but brought with him the right skills and attitude to make a seamless transition into his current role. So, although he’s been with DCC just a few months, it feels like we’ve known him a lot longer for all the right reasons!

Here is the Q & A with Colton:

How long have you been an Employment Specialist?

I have been an Employment Specialist since December 2024.

What first interested you about job development?

I’ve worked with students in the past to help improve their education. I was interested by the ability to help others beyond the classroom in a career setting.

As Employment Specialists, we talk about a “good fit” all the time and assisting our clients with finding a job they will thrive in! What makes job development a good fit for you?

Job development has been a good fit for me because of the team that helps me learn and grow. I have been supported and allowed to learn how to job develop and interact with my clients in a way that is genuine to who I am.

What do you want people to know about supported employment?

There is a lot that goes into the supported employment process. Every person is unique, and their entire team is a crucial part of finding the right fit for them. Being able to build connections and provide opportunities that our clients may not have access to is incredibly rewarding.
