Kindness, generosity & shared joy: A successful ‘Shop with a Cop’ event

The Beaverton Police Department’s annual “Holiday Shop with a Cop” event took place on Saturday, December 7. In a change from tradition, children spent the morning selecting gifts for their parents and family members, guided by officers who assisted the kids as they thoughtfully chose presents for loved ones.

Unbeknownst to the children, Beaverton Police officers and staff had secretly purchased gifts for each child in advance through the BPD Giving Tree. At the end of the event, every child was surprised with presents chosen just for them, creating moments of joy and wonder that captured the spirit of the season.

“This event always means a lot to us,” said Public Information Officer Matt Henderson. “But watching kids think about others, and then seeing their faces light up when they received their own gifts was truly special.”

The event was made possible through the support of Fred Meyer Stores, Sunshine Division, the Beaverton Police Foundation, and a network of generous donors and volunteers. Their contributions helped create a memorable experience for families and strengthened the bond between the police department and the community.
