Local club can help you beautify your yard: Let’s Garden Together
You can be the fairy godmother your garden needs with a little help from the Beaverton Garden Club. We meet once a month for general information sharing, hospitality and horticulture tips. The Beaverton Garden Club was chartered in 1990. There are many things to learn at the club.
Besides getting to know your fellow gardeners, featured speakers give presentations at club meetings. For example, can you imagine a whole hour talking about dirt? Rod Smith, an instructor at Portland Community College, offered information on the best kind of soils for the particular plants we are growing.
Sarah Williams Brown, who is a park ranger with the Tualatin National Wildlife Refuge spoke on the many opportunities to learn about native plants and how they impact wildlife.
Also at our club meeting we have one of our members provide a short horticultural exhibit or talk. We have a fun raffle which provides extra funds for our charitable outreaches.
We have monthly birthday celebrations where members can meet and converse at a local restaurant.
One of our volunteer members organizes field trips throughout the year that the club members can attend. The field trips are to local area sites such as flower gardens, gardening centers and exhibits.
Our annual plant sale is our big fundraiser of the year. Not only is the Beaverton Garden Club a 501(c)3 non-profit, but we also give to charitable and worthy organizations that promote plants and gardens. There are monetary, in kind, and service-oriented donations.
The organizations to which we offer funds or services include:
- Food banks.
- Scholarships for students pursuing agricultural or environmental studies.
- Reforestation projects through Plant A Tree.
- Lettuce Grow which supports garden-based classes for Oregon incarcerated students.
- Veterans Memorial Garden.
- Remembrance Garden at the Elsie Stuhr Center.
- Other beautifying projects in the community.
Our Garden Club is located in Beaverton, with members from across the Beaverton area, including Beaverton, Aloha, Tigard, Hillsboro, Portland, and Lake Oswego. We are a member of: Pioneer District, Oregon State Federation of Garden Clubs, Pacific Region of Garden Clubs, National Garden Club.
