Looking for a great opportunity for community gatherings & gift shopping?
I must start this issue with a thank you to the community for the large, supportive turnout for the Washington County Open Studio tour that occurred 10/18-19. All the artists that participated are grateful for your support, me included.
As November begins, so do a host of holiday art pop-up show and sales. These are great places to gather and enjoy community as well as pick up unique and local gifts for a friend or family member this year.
In Forest Grove, Cawein Gallery will host the 97116 Art Show opening 11/21, 6PM-10PM. This is a grab and go art show so coming earlier affords you the chance to pick from the most artwork. The maximum price of work is 150.00 and maximum size is 12×12, making them reasonable for gifting.
In Hillsboro, The Walters Cultural Arts Center will have a Small Works show opening 12/2. The maximum size for works in this grab and go show and sale is 10×10 and a limit of 150.00. This is a great returning show that is fun and festive with lots of people and artists.
In Cedar Mill, The Village Gallery of Art will have their holiday show 12/14, 3-5PM. The gallery has a wide range of artworks from watercolor and oils to ceramics and glass and lots of fun cards, jewelry, and other unique accessories. During holidays members are encouraged to submit themed work so come by and check out all the affordable and charming options.
In Beaverton, swing by Grey Raven Gallery and peruse the collection of fine art. They participate in Beaverton First Fridays and usually feature a new artist each month in addition to their full catalog of artists. If you can’t get out to shop, they have work online for purchase.
Lastly, The Reser and Beaverton Arts Market for the third year will be hosting their holiday pop-up art show and sale, The Curio. From their website, “Come be dazzled and surprised by works from nearly 40 artists specializing in paintings, drawings, photographs, ceramics, mixed-media designs, glass, wood wares, wearable arts and more.” This is another grab and go show and sale so coming on 11/29 “Shop Local Saturday,” from noon-6 will afford you the greatest selection of art. There will also be an artists’ reception show 12/5, 6-9PM if you would like to meet and chat with the artists.
We are in times when supporting local artists by buying handmade work is more important than ever. Each dollar you spend goes back into your own community and supports the livelihoods of your friends and neighbors. These shows are good for our neighborhoods and good for our spirits in the season of gratitude, joy, and love. I hope to see you all out there. Cheers!
