Looking for fun during these dog days of summer? Beaverton’s First Street Commons is Heating Up
Come on down to the First Street Commons in Old Town Beaverton. Thursday nights, The Beaverton Downtown Association is hosting “Downtown Sounds” with live music, vendors, and fun for the whole family.
1st Street Commons, located between Washington and Watson on 1st, is an outdoor gathering place surrounded by great shops and restaurants. There are tables and chairs, outdoor games, and on Thursday nights, live music and a host of rotating vendors offering arts, crafts, and food.
The line up of bands for September is as follows: 9/3 Joseph Konty, 9/10 Hillbilly Supper Club, 9/17 Dumpster Joe, and 9/24 Kick the Bucket Jazz Band. The evening I participated, Longshore Drift played, and it was a great time. The vendors that evening were artist Rosa Gilbert of Crafty Cositas, ice cream maker Veronica Porras of Incownito, artist Lisa Stephonof Frankenfabrics, artist Tim Yardley of the Beaverton Downtown Association, and artist/ educator Beth Pansino of Effelyn Art (all pictured with this article). All vendors are local and offer handmade goods.

In addition to Downtown Sounds, BDA also hosts Book Corner at the Commons, Wednesdays 9/2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 from 9AM to 5PM. This event provides free books to the community. Whether you are searching for a new novel, a children’s book, a mystery, or just like to hunt for a literary gem, this event is for you. While perusing the choices, stop in to the local shops for a coffee or snack and check out all the great shops nearby.
“Fiesta on First,” 9/29, brings together local artists, makers, small businesses, musicians, and community organizations for an evening of culture, shopping, entertainment, and connection. Whether you’re discovering handcrafted goods, enjoying live music, supporting local entrepreneurs, or simply spending time with family and friends, there’s something for everyone.
