Need to fix a car window? Here is who I recommend: Glass Doctor of SW Portland

Hello loyal Beaverton readers… for the month of December, I would like to talk about the glass on your car.

It’s December and the colder months are still ahead of us. In fact, the weather service said we should be prepared for more snow than last year. And with snow/ice comes gravel on the roads and this means an increased chance of flying pebbles causing cracked or chipped front windscreen on your beloved car. If this should happen to you this winter, who should you call?

Introducing Glass Doctor of SW Portland. I recently purchased a used SUV and after a few days, I noticed that it came with a couple of chips in the windshield hidden below the wiper. My first call was to Kirk over at Metro Car Care (see last month’s article) and he recommended that I take the car to see the doctor. The doctor?! Well, not just any doctor. The place is called Glass Doctor of SW Portland and they are located right here in Beaverton just off Western Avenue. So, that’s just what I did.

After I arrived and was greeted by the friendly face of Judy Wood, I instantly knew this would be a great experience. But could they do a good job at a reasonable price? Hint: I wouldn’t be writing about them in this column if I was less than super satisfied!

Judy quickly wrote up the work order and got a technician (Karrick, great guy) to come out and discuss the repair in detail. He explained that he could repair the three rock chips and avoid a costly full windshield replacement. That’s good news to me.

While I waited, Judy introduced me to her husband Dave, and their son, Alan. Yep, that’s right. It’s a small, local, family-run business. My favorite kind of shop to support and recommend. After talking with the two fellas, I was immediately impressed with their knowledge and expertise in all aspects of vehicle glass. It was also a pleasant conversation.

After just a short while (less than 90 minutes), my SUV came out with the windshield looking like new. It looked so good in fact, I thought maybe they ended up replacing the whole glass but they didn’t. What an excellent job but did it cost me an arm and a leg? It was only $89 to repair the first chip and half price for the other two. Not bad at all!

When I left Judy, Dave and Alan, I was a very satisfied customer and happy to have found a place where I could refer the many people who come to me for automotive advice (since visiting there and writing this story, I’ve already recommended them twice!). I am truly proud to endorse this local Beaverton shop.

I should mention that they also provide headlight restoration and high-tech calibration of safety features in addition to washing all windows and vacuuming the floors as a thank you for bringing your car in.
