No one loves you more than yourself

Valentine’s Day is upon us and love is in the air! Of course, many people will gift their sweetheart something romantic, but what about those who don’t have someone special? Well, Valentine’s Day doesn’t just have to be about your special someone. it can also be a day for loving the most important person in your life: YOU! Here are some suggestions:

Go Out Somewhere Nice!

Familiar or new, the choice is yours. How about going back to a restaurant you loved as a child. Or, if you want to try something different, get a recommendation from a friend. Either way, have fun and enjoy yourself. When I was younger, I used to love collecting random shiny objects and my fondest memory was an antique shop near the ocean in Garibaldi. I think I might ask to go back there for Valentine’s Day.

Watch a Movie!

Movies are a great way to spend time on this special day. Of course, you can choose a movie that loved when you were a kid (for me it’s the Disney classic “Bednobs & Broomsticks”). And since it could be years and years since you’ve seen it, it’s sure to be a special treat. Other movie recommendations might be any Disney movie before 2011, and any movie from the Studio Ghibli collection (specifically My Neighbor Totoro). Finally, what could be more appropriate than to watch a 1990’s “romcom” like Sleepless in Seattle (can’t go wrong, trust me!).

Baking Party!

I know that not everyone reading this enjoys baking like I do, but I assure you, if you give it a try, you might be pleasantly surprised. And what kind of baking goes well on Valentine’s Day? Sweets, of course! Try some simple cookie recipes first and then work your way up to some fabulous dessert! Plus, at the end of the day, you’ll have lots of delicious treats left over. As a child, I remember baking the most delcious cookies (Ranger Cookies) with my Auntie Leslie. I think on Valentines Day this year, that’s what I’m going to do.

For many people who do not have a significant other (myself included), Valentine’s Day can be a day you don’t look forward to or worse, a dreaded day for other people to be happy. But I take a no to that! Valentine’s Day should be a happy occasion regardless of being in a relationship. Nobody should love you more than yourself. I think that’s key to having a high self-esteem. So, if you are by yourself on this special day, no problem, treat yourself to something special.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
