Celebrating Our City Staff in May and Every Day

Public Service Recognition Week is Sunday, May 4 through Saturday, May 10 and celebrates the many people who provide services within the community — from roads and emergency response to water, development, library, and so much more.

National Police Week will take place from Sunday, May 11 to Saturday, May 17. Events include a National Peace Officers memorial service, a candlelight vigil, and a police unity tour, bringing together officers, families, and supporters. These ceremonies provide a time of remembrance, reflection, and solidarity within the law enforcement community.

National Public Works Week will take place from Sunday, May 18 through Saturday, May 24, to recognize public works professionals.

Fountain Turns on This Month:

Looking for something fun to do this summer? How about a visit to the City Park Fountain? After being dormant all through the cooler months, the fountain will be back on this month! Can’t make it? Take your time. The water feature will be on from 8 a.m. until dark every day through mid-October.

First Responder K-9 Event is June 8:

The Beaverton Police Department invites you to our First Responder K-9 Event from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sunday, June 8 at Mountain View Champions Park, 5915 Southwest 170th Ave.

This family-friendly event will celebrate the skills of working dogs who assist first responders every day. Watch as these highly-trained dogs demonstrate their roles in search and rescue, detection, protection, and providing emotional support to officers during challenging times. Meet the handlers, enjoy live demonstrations, and discover how these dogs make a real difference in emergency situations.

We’re also excited to host a variety of dog-related vendors offering products and services for your furry friends.

Bring your family and friends for a fun, educational experience and show your appreciation for the vital teamwork between first responders and their amazing K-9 partners!

We love dogs but kindly ask that you leave your personal pets at home. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to see these extraordinary dogs in action!

Investing in Every Drop:

The True Value of Your Water Utility Rate Public Hearing, June 17. Earlier this year, we announced rate increases as part of a ten-year investment to improve our community’s water infrastructure, ensuring that your water is safe & clean.

Proposed Utility Bill Changes:

New uniform rates for multi-family homes and nonresidential customers.
New tiered water rates for residential customers that establishes different water prices based on consumption to encourage equity and conservation.
New sewer and stormwater rates for all customers.

A public hearing to consider these changes is scheduled for the City Council meeting on Tuesday, June 17 at 6 p.m. If approved, the new rates will go into effect July 1, 2025.

Willamette Water Supply System:

The city is also looking forward to completion of the Willamette Water Supply System — a new seismically resilient partnership project with TVWD and the City of Hillsboro to develop the mid-Willamette River at Wilsonville as an additional water supply source. When operational, the system will provide a reliable water supply for the region by balancing supply during times of drought or other supply interruptions, as well as recover more quickly after a large natural disaster.

From Source to Tap: Do You Know Where Your Water Comes From?

Our water distribution system never stops, ensuring that city customers receive quality drinking water when and where they need it.

In Beaverton, our primary source of drinking water is surface water from the upper Tualatin River provided via the Joint Water Commission (JWC) water treatment plant. The city shares JWC membership with the cities of Forest Grove and Hillsboro, as well as the Tualatin Valley Water District (TVWD). Beaverton has water rights to up to 18.75 million gallons per day of this treated drinking water. In addition, the city owns the right to use up to 1.3 billion gallons in Scoggins Reservoir (Hagg Lake) and 1.4 billion gallons in Barney Reservoir for additional need in summer months. During periods of high-water demand, the city can also supplement its supply with city-owned aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) wells. In the winter and spring, the city stores unused drinking water in the ASR wells and pumps water out of the deep wells for summer use to conserve the Tualatin River water.

Fiscal Year 2025-26 Budget Reminder: Development of the next fiscal year budget is underway and interested community members are encouraged to stay engaged.
