Washington County Cooperative Library Services 50th Anniversary.

Beaverton City Library kicked off summer reading and helped Washington County Cooperative Library Services celebrate its 50th anniversary at the main library in June.

Since 1976, WCCLS has connected the Beaverton community with free, accessible library resources. With 16 libraries across Washington County and a shared collection of 1.5 million items, visitors can easily explore books, DVDs, newspapers, and more. WCCLS has something for every age and interest!

Each week, WCCLS libraries host a variety of fun, free events that bring people together and highlight the many services they offer. Whether you visit the Murray Scholls Branch or the main library in downtown Beaverton, you’ll find welcoming spaces and a wealth of resources.

Creekside Connections: Transforming Downtown Beaverton Through Nature, Equity, and Community

On a beautiful afternoon in Beaverton, city staff toured the Creekside Connections project area alongside our partners at Metro, Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District, and Community Partners for Affordable Housing.

This transformational effort brings Beaverton’s long-term vision to life – creating a vibrant downtown where nature and the built environment truly work together.

The project restores Beaverton Creek, expands our tree canopy, cools the urban core, and creates a connected natural corridor through the district. By treating nature as infrastructure, we’re strengthening habitat, improving water quality, reconnecting floodplains, and boosting long-term climate resilience right in the heart of the city.

Part of the Downtown Beaverton Equity Strategy, Creekside Connections is intentionally designed to ensure that historically marginalized and culturally specific communities directly benefit from restored natural areas, future trails, upland open spaces, and the nature-rich, multigenerational environment taking shape at Lombard West.

It’s all about connection: linking homes, jobs, parks, shopping, restaurants, and transit through safer car-free routes, trails, and welcoming, inclusive public spaces.
