Q&A with the Animal Shelter: How can I help animals in the community?

Each month, you will have the chance to have your questions answered by the animal shelter.

I want to help the animals in our community. How can I get involved with the Bonnie Hays Animal Shelter?

There are many ways to get involved with us and help pets in Washington County:

Learn about what we do by following us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for updates and sweet reunion photos!

Advocate for pets in our community as a Volunteer Ambassador. These are specially trained volunteers who have completed our Animal Services Academy. They address myths about our county’s animal shelter, advocate for its important role in the community, help neighbors get lost pets back home, and directly support people and pets living together peacefully in Washington County. The next session of our free Animal Services Academy starts January 15 and is open to community members 16+. Check our website for more information.

Donate money to help animals temporarily staying at our shelter! Financial donations make a huge difference in the lives of the animals. They help us provide veterinary care, reunite lost pets with their people, rescue stray and injured animals, and investigate abuse and neglect. If you prefer to pick out a special item to send the animals, we have an Amazon Wish List that is updated frequently to include specific items we need and will use. Plus, Amazon delivers directly to us!

You could also organize a fundraiser with friends, classmates, coworkers or a club you belong to. We offer tips for raising money to help the shelter on our website.

Thank you for caring about the pets in our community!
