Revolutionary War Memorial, Newly Installed in Beaverton Park

A new Revolutionary War memorial was installed at Veterans Memorial Park, honoring the first veterans who gave their lives for the country.

Crews installed the memorial in April. It is the 15th memorial at the park.

Oregon was not explored by Lewis and Clark until at least two decades after the Revolutionary War ended.

David Witter, president of the Lewis & Clark Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, said the memorial addresses a gap in the park’s tributes.

“Back in 2008 some of our members said it says all veterans but where are the first veterans?” Witter said. “The first veterans aren’t represented in any of the other of the 14 memorials in the park, and they said ‘well there should be something here for the revolution,’ so that’s what started this.”
