Salvation Army announces new mobile food pantry for Washington Co. serving people in rural areas

• The Salvation Army introduced a new mobile food pantry in Washington County in March.
• The pantry will serve people in the greatest need in rural areas of the county.
• The mobile food pantry is an extension of the mobile outreach program in the county and will serve people with the greatest needs in rural areas.
• The Washington County Hope Center is also in the process of renovating its on-site food pantry to help address growing food insecurity.

“It’s kind of like a small grocery store where clients get to come in and instead of just receiving the food box, they’re actually given the opportunity to have some agency over their own food and shop around. we feel that this is more dignified, and it reduces waste when people get food that they are allergic to or they don’t eat,” said Adam Harvey, program director for the Salvation Army in Washington County.

People coming to the center for food has more than doubled, helping more than 500 households monthly through the on-site food pantry.
