Stretching and happiness tap into a dopamine boost without leaving your home
We all could use a boost of happy vibes these days. When we’re stuck at home and can’t tap into activities we usually undertake for a balanced life, things can get, well, unbalanced. We might have a tendency to engage in habits that lead us even further away from a sense of wellbeing.
Plus, we’re relying on so much technology from home these days that encourages prolonged sitting, sub-optimal desk arrangements, and poor posture habits.
Frequent stretching is an effective way to remedy the physical ailments of stiffness, immobility, and lack of coordination – and even more importantly, relieve a bad mood.
Why you should stretch more
If you want to counteract “desk bod” and boost your happy vibes, proper stretching can improve your range of motion, increase flexibility, and relieve pain. Research shows stretching has other benefits like reducing anxiety, increasing vitality, decreasing depression symptoms, promoting blood circulation, regulating blood glucose levels, and increasing the feel-good endorphin, Dopamine.
Stretching also helps release pain and tension from the body. It’s certainly easier to feel more relaxed and happier when your body isn’t in pain.
As with any exercise, start light and gradually migrate to more resistance when stretching. True Potential Chiropractic has helpful how-to videos and downloadable resources on stretching and other exercises you can do to maintain optimal spinal and physical health – even while you’re stuck at home.
