The Beaverton Chess Club is Back!

The Beaverton Chess Club is Back!

After two months in the hospital, I’m happy to be back to my chess routine.

  • Playing and teaching chess (of course!)
  • Organizing chess tournaments (mostly for kids).
  • Running the Beaverton Chess Club (Thursday 5pm-9pm at 2820 SW Cedar Hills Blvd.)
  • Running the Hillsboro Chess Club (2nd & 4th Saturdays of the month at the Shute Park Library)
  • Collecting and reading chess books.
  • Making chess videos, and
  • Writing articles about this incredible hobby for the Beaverton Resource Guide.

I’m planning on writing about a variety of chess subjects. I’d like to spotlight some young and “up and coming” players such as Oregon State Champion, Zoey Tang, and other notable young players. At the other end of the age spectrum is the sad passing of five amazing chess coaches just in the last year. I’ll write a story about them and their contributions to the game, too. Lastly, some of my past students who went off to college and are now back in town and have wonderful chess stories to tell.

Who comes to the Beaverton Chess Club? All are welcome! We have some adults and married couples that come to play and improve. I teach many kids who are interested in learning the game to have fun with family and friends. But the most exciting part of my job is coaching those students of the game who want to improve and compete in exciting tournaments!

A one hour lesson is only $35. With the school year starting, now is a good time to get kids into chess. You can contact me about lessons at 503-348-2600 or email: larryball48@yahoo.com.

I’m looking forward to meeting and working with new students, seeing them improve and playing in tournaments. I want to thank those who have supported me through my illness and the students who wished me well.

It’s good to be back!
