The spirit of Beaverton: You all make this city what it is

While our world has at times felt heavy, and we might wonder about the direction in which we are headed, I am reminded that this city’s north star is community.

Whether it is people showing up at Project Homeless Connect to offer haircuts or housing connections, or when we gather to celebrate our rich cultural heritage at Ten Tiny Dances; Beaverton is a beautiful reminder of what this country is all about – a place where spirit shines.

And that spirit showed up all summer long. I saw it at National Night Out, at ribbon cuttings for new small businesses, and inside City Hall where staff are doing the hard, often invisible work that keeps this city moving: maintaining streets, supporting families, and housing our growing population.

The truth is, Beaverton works because you do. Neighbors, public servants, business owners: you all make this city what it is.

Your passion, your vision, your dedication to new ideas is what can drive us all to achieve new heights for our community. And the need has never been greater to channel this spirit of innovation.

We’re growing our volunteer and emergency prep programs, funding creative solutions to community needs, and offering events all season long: from the Beaverton Arts Market to Winter Lights and the One Book, One Beaverton Program.

There’s still a lot happening in the world, but here in Beaverton we are building the home that our children deserve.

I continue to feel proud and grateful knowing that our city is a place in which we all show up.
