THPRD News & Updates for August, 2025

Fall Registration opens on Sat., 8/9 at 8 am for in-district residents and Mon., 8/11 for out-of-district.

Theater in the Park: Raleigh Park: Wed. 8/6, 6:30 pm: Experience the magic of outdoor theater with a special performance of William Shakespeare’s Midsommer Nights Dream by the talented cast form OPS Fest.

Skates in the Park: Center Street Park: Sat. 8/9, 5-7:30pm: Grab your crew, lace up your skates and roll into an unforgettable night! THPRD and the Rose City Rollers will be bringing the roller rink vibes with Skatemobile- the skate truck stocked with 150+ pairs of roller skates and gear (bring skates if you have). This event welcomes all ages, all types of “wheels” (skates, rollerblades, scooters, bikes) and all level of skaters.

Therapeutic Recreation End of Summer Carnival: Mon. 8/11, 6:30-8:30pm. Join us to finish out the summer with games, cool treats, games & more. Event held at the Elsie Stuhr Center. This program is intended for teens and adults who are experiencing disabilities.

Hot Dog Wednesday: Line Dance Party: Wed., 8/13, 6 pm – 7 pm. The final event of our Hot Dog Wednesdays series at Cedar Hills Rec Center! Prepare to put on your dancing shoes at our line dance event, fun for all skill levels.

Concert in the Park: Camile Park: Thurs. 8/14, 6:30 – 8 pm: Get ready for summer fun with our annual FREE concerts in the park! Bring your family and friends to enjoy a night of music from Rodeo Rose along with fun kid’s activities. Concert-goers are welcome to bring low-profile lawn chairs or blankets for seating.

TRI Together Triathlon: On Sat. 8/16, the TRI Together, an inclusive, family friendly triathlon hosted at the HMT campus that provides an opportunity for people of all abilities to come together to be active will be held. This triathlon is intended for beginners and groups of all ages.

Summer Splash Day: Schiffler Park: Wed. 8/20, 4 – 7 pm: With a live DJ and water play, it’s going to be an amazing event! Cost: $5 each child. Kids will enjoy water slides, splash games, bubbles, and more.

Canine Community Carnival Garden Home Rec Center: Sun. 8/24, 9 am – 12 pm: Join us at Garden Home Recreation Center. It will be a paw-some day of fun! Admission is FREE. All dogs must be on a leash. Pet donations welcome!

Enchanted Family Day Pío Pío Park: Thurs. 8/28 10 am -12 pm: Come join THPRD in a whimsical park setting! Kids can dress like their favorite character for a day of activities, music, treats and give-a-ways.

Facility Rentals; Parties, Events, Meetings & more: Garden Home Rec. has spaces available for rent including, gymnasium, outside covered pavilion, kitchen, gymnastics & dance rooms.

Fall Adult and Youth Volleyball: In August, registration will open for our adult and youth leagues.

Commonwealth Lake Park Fishing Dock: A section of fencing on the southeast fishing dock was recently vandalized, will be replaced with new fencing later this month.

THRIVE After-school program enrollment is still going for spots in our 2025-26 THRIVE after-school program. We offer high quality care in a safe and nurturing environment. Arts, physical activity, cooking, enrichment and more.

Wildfire Management Staff continued to work with TVFR to create individual natural area site plans that will reduce the risk of wildfire. Patrons are encouraged to do their part by reporting suspicious behavior in parks and creating defensible space at home.

Peterkort Trail. This soft-surface trail located northwest of the Sunset Transit Center has been widened and the surface improved. Its tall trees make nice shade for a cool summer walk.
