Understanding Parkinson’s – Finding Courage, Care & Community

When John Matthews first noticed a subtle tremor in his right hand, he brushed it off as fatigue. A retired teacher and avid woodworker, he never imagined that a few months later he’d be sitting in a neurologist’s office hearing the words: “You have Parkinson’s disease.”
“I remember the room going quiet,” John recalls. “It wasn’t just fear. It was uncertain. What would my life look like now? How would my wife, Sarah, manage as my needs changed?”
John’s journey – like so many affected by Parkinson’s – is a testament to resilience, adaptability, and the profound need for connection and support. Over the years, John and Sarah have navigated the progression of Parkinson’s hand-in-hand, learning not only how to cope, but how to thrive.
“It’s not just a patient’s journey,” Sarah says. “It becomes a caregiver’s journey too. We had to learn how to find resources, ask for help, and accept that we weren’t alone.”
That’s the power of community. You are invited to a free Community Parkinson’s Seminar on October 13, where community experts, advocates, and individuals like John and Sarah will come together to inform, inspire, and support those touched by Parkinson’s.
