Visit Jordan at Carina’s Bakery

As a Community Transition Program student learning job skills through volunteer work experience, Jordan Taylor was interested in finding a first job. He reached out to Dirkse Counseling and Consulting for employment services and worked with a job developer to determine what kind of job would be a great fit.

Jordan expressed a strong interest in working at a specific business called Carina’s Bakery in Beaverton. He felt that for him, working for a business that emphasizes inclusion and understanding for individuals with disabilities would be the best environment for him to start his employment journey. Of course, he also had an interest in learning how to work in a bakery and become a baker!

Through a series of Meet and Greets, informational interviews and applying to Carina’s, Jordan was offered a position as a Baker’s Assistant. He had the good fortune to work directly with Carina and learn new skills in her kitchen with food prep.

Over the last few months, he has developed additional skills such as assisting with dishwashing (an ongoing task in a busy bakery), interacting with customers, and running a point-of-sale system. While some things can be more challenging than others, Jordan shows a lot of determination to do his best and learn. He has become a valued part of the team.

When he first met Carina at a local business event, he said she had a nice handshake and a professional attitude. This provides great role modeling for Jordan, as he has said that customer service is his favorite part of his job. He loves interacting with patrons, greeting them, taking their orders, and completing the transactions. He is always ready to come up front to provide good service! Carina says that he is enthusiastic, loves helping customers, and is a team player with an upbeat attitude.

When you visit Carina’s for delicious baked goods, be assured you will be greeted and served by someone who loves their job.

Congratulations, Jordan!
