Welcoming new police officers: Introducing Officers Balderas, Klus, Kubota, Lee, and Sanders
The Beaverton Police Department is pleased to welcome five new officers to the department. Officers Balderas, Klus, Kubota, Lee, and Sanders were officially sworn in by Chief Groshong on Monday, January 11. The new recruits will begin the six-week in-house orientation and training which will cover department policies, communication skills, building searches, criminal investigation techniques, as well as Taser and CPR/first aid certifications.
Next, the new officers will go to the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) in Salem for the 16-week Basic Police Officer Academy. There, they will receive extensive training in emergency vehicle operations, firearms, defense tactics, and criminal Oregon case law.
After graduation from DPSST, they will return to the Beaverton Police Department where each officer will be assigned a Field Training Officer and hit the road for practical field training for the duration of their recruit probation, 18 months after their hire date.
