When is the best time to find a deals for traveling? Focus on key strategies

I’ve recently been asked when the best time is to find a travel deal. Years ago, timing was everything, which has now led to the common misconception that there’s a single best day to book. The truth is that prices are constantly in flux, driven by complex algorithms and market demand. I call this “dynamic pricing”. This results in it being very difficult to find a “magic” Tuesday to find a deal. Instead, focus on key strategies that will provide you with the best prices on all things travel (including auto rentals, cruises, flights, hotel, land tours, resorts, and travel protection)

Key Strategy #1: Use a Travel Advisor. Specifically, a Verified Travel Advisor (VTA) from the American Society of Travel Advisors. This type of travel advisor has completed all training required that ensures you have the best trained, knowledgeable Travel Professional and knows where the deals can be found before they are published to the general public. When interviewing a travel advisor, ask about their fees and when you can expect a travel quote. Once they have all of the information, they need to provide such. And don’t forget to check their reviews. If their reviews are out of date, ask and use their most recent. Use of a travel advisor will save you time and trouble, while getting you the best deal for the money spent.

Key Strategy #2: Use time to press your advantage. The most significant factor in getting a great deal is how far in advance you can plan for. But if you want to book for yourself, here’s a tip: look for early morning or late-night flights, as they tend to be less popular and affordable. Then, can you delay, change, or cancel and expect a refund? Or in the case of a land tour/resort, what is the change, cancellation and refund policies, along with the timing of such.

Key Strategy #3: Peak or Off-Peak Season. For many destinations, this means traveling in January, February, September, or October. Deals are available, and there are smaller crowds at popular attractions. Conversely, ask your VTA when the peak seasons is for the area you want to travel to. If you can, avoid the travel season for major holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Prices are at their highest due to demand. By shifting your travel dates by just a day or two, you can often find significant savings. For example, flying on Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day is almost always cheaper than flying the days immediately before or after.
