Why Early Math and Reading Matters

Hailie has finished high school level math & reading!

In 2016, Hailie started at the Kumon of South Beaverton as a 3-year-old in our early learning program. She has grown in our program throughout the years and became a double completer in math and reading by the middle of her 8th grade at Conestoga Middle School. Since the Kumon program covers math and reading through 12th grade work, completing both programs is a major accomplishment!

Hailie and her family are wonderful examples of commitment to a student’s education and preparation for the rigors of high school and beyond. I asked Hailie to write a small piece about what Kumon has done for her as she prepares for high school next year.

“I was 3 years old when I first joined the Kumon program. I was about 7 years old when I first started to find Kumon homework tedious. However, whenever I went to school, I saw the things I already learned in Kumon. It made it easy for me to grasp the topics we were learning, but that didn’t change how I felt about doing the homework. For a while, I disliked doing Kumon because completing it frustrated me. Then, I saw how it affected my school life and even some parts of my home life. I was able to learn on my own, and it helped me lay at least the foundations for what I learned in school. I’m 13 now, and I just completed both the reading and math programs in Kumon a few months ago. Even though the journey was difficult, I am glad I didn’t quit because it has benefited me in so many ways.”

We know that Hailie will do very well as she enters high school in the fall.
